Thank you to the Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation for matching our $5,000 donation to The Davies Project! We were able to drop by this morning and present Executive Director Pam Miklavcic with a check for $10,000.
The Davies Project provides free rides with volunteer drivers to medical appointments for children with a serious medical condition. In Greater Lansing, where 70% of the children who rely on the local subspecialty clinics are on Medicaid, 60% of these children miss their appointments because their families do not have reliable transportation. Dependable access to medical appointments helps doctors provide timely treatment, fulfills a crucial need in the community, and improves children’s health outcomes. The Davies Project volunteer drivers understand how isolated families may feel when dealing with a health crisis. That empathy, plus the reliable transportation, provide a huge support for an overwhelmed family just trying to make it through each day.
And make sure to come out for Max's Race this Saturday morning on the beautiful campus of Michigan State University. Participate in-person or virtually. Virtual participation could include running, walking, biking, swimming or kayaking in a place near you. Consider a scavenger hunt of Max's favorite things such as the moon, the color orange, or MSU's mascot Sparty to honor the legacy of Max who passed away at the age of 6 due to complications from meningitis. The proceeds from the event will go to support The Davies Project!
