In an inspiring session on February 22, 2024, Rathbun Insurance, took a step forward in shaping the future of budding talents. Ben Rathbun, the dynamic CEO of Rathbun Insurance, and Kenwon Simpson, an accomplished Account Manager and recent Lansing School District graduate, engaged with the bright minds of the Lansing School District's Career Technical Education (CTE) program, specifically the Business and Risk Management Class.
Lansing School District’s CTE programs, designed for 11th and 12th-grade students, aim to equip them with the necessary academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training to excel in future careers and become lifelong learners. The two-year program delves into the intricacies of the insurance industry, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of underwriting for clients, making claims adjustments, and managing loss events for insurance companies.
At the heart of the curriculum is the exploration of why "risk" is an indispensable part of the business world. Understanding the delicate balance between potential high returns and substantial
losses is a key focus. The program teaches students how to navigate the complexities of risk management and find cost-efficient solutions for potential losses.
One of the noteworthy aspects of the program is its commitment to practical knowledge. Students have the opportunity to earn three industry certifications in crucial areas - Property and Liability, Personal Insurance, and Commercial Insurance. Olivet College, the program's partnering post-secondary institution, goes a step further by offering up to 12 college credits to students who successfully complete the program. This not only prepares them for the professional landscape but also accelerates their academic journey.
The culmination of this comprehensive program allows students to take the State Licensing Exam for their Producer (Agent) Licenses, opening doors to a career in the insurance industry. Rathbun Insurance is actively involved in nurturing these future leaders, ensuring they are not just equipped with theoretical knowledge but are also ready for the challenges and opportunities in the real world.
Ben Rathbun, CEO of Rathbun Insurance, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, "Engaging with these young minds is not just about sharing knowledge; it's about fostering a passion for insurance and instilling a sense of responsibility in the next generation of industry leaders. Rathbun Insurance is proud to be a part of this journey."
Kenwon Simpson, Account Manager at Rathbun Insurance, added, "Seeing the eagerness and curiosity in these students is truly inspiring. The insurance industry is evolving, and these students are the future innovators and leaders who will shape its trajectory. We are committed to providing them with the tools and insights they need to succeed."
The engagement with Lansing School District’s Business and Risk Management Class underscores Rathbun Insurance's commitment to education, community, and the future. As these students embark on their journey, Rathbun Insurance stands as a guiding force, empowering them to navigate the dynamic landscape of the insurance industry with confidence and competence.
