At Rathbun Insurance, we believe in more than just providing excellent coverage for our clients. We're committed to giving back to our community and supporting initiatives that align with our values. That's why we are thrilled to announce our continued partnership with Auto-Owners Insurance to sponsor ScrapFest, an event that embodies creativity, sustainability, and community spirit.
ScrapFest isn't just your average art festival—it's a celebration of repurposing and upcycling, where discarded materials are transformed into stunning works of art. What started as a scrap metal sculpture competition has blossomed into a full-fledged festival, featuring eco-art vendors, family activities, live music, and delicious food. It's an event that brings together artists, environmentalists, and families alike, all united by a passion for creativity and conservation.
One of the highlights of ScrapFest is the scrap metal sculpture competition, where teams have the unique challenge of turning scrap metal into breathtaking works of art. Teams are given an hour to gather up to 500 pounds of metal (or 250 pounds for the Small Piece category) from Friedland Industries’ processing plant in Old Town Lansing. Then, they have a month to let their imaginations run wild and create their sculptures. The finished pieces are auctioned off in Old Town Lansing on Turner Street in mid-July, with 70% of the proceeds going directly to the artists.
But ScrapFest isn't just about art—it's also about giving back to the community. That's why 20% of the proceeds from the event go to supporting ScrapFest itself, ensuring that this beloved festival can continue to grow and thrive. Additionally, 10% of the proceeds are donated to a local charity, with this year's partner being Lansing SAVE—a fantastic organization dedicated to helping families save for their children's college education.
As sponsors of ScrapFest, Rathbun Insurance and Auto-Owners Insurance are proud to support an event that fosters creativity, promotes sustainability, and strengthens our community. We believe in the power of art to inspire change and bring people together, and ScrapFest is a shining example of that belief in action.
So mark your calendars for Friday, July 12 (5 PM-9 PM) and Saturday, July 13 (11 AM-7 PM) and join us for ScrapFest—an unforgettable celebration of art, creativity, and community.
See you at ScrapFest!
