Today, we're excited to share about the upcoming 4th Annual 517 Juneteenth Weekend celebration happening in Lansing's vibrant REO Town neighborhood. Stay tuned for a future blog with more details on another fantastic Lansing Juneteenth celebration event coming up.
From Thursday, June 13th to Sunday, June 16th, REO Town will come alive with a series of events and activities that pay homage to Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The highlight of the weekend will be the free Juneteenth Festival held on Saturday, June 15th, right on South Washington Ave in REO Town.
So, what can you expect at the festival? Prepare to be entertained by live musical performances, including a special guest headline act that promises to captivate audiences. Indulge in a culinary journey with delicious food offerings, support local black-owned businesses at vendor stalls, and explore informative booths shedding light on black history and culture. And let's not forget about the little ones—there will be plenty of activities for kids in the dedicated kids zone.
One highlight not to be missed is the Battle of the BBQ, where local pitmasters will showcase their skills and compete for the title of BBQ champion. It's a feast for the senses and a celebration of community spirit.
