As we wrap up an incredible semester with the Michigan State University (MSU) Advanced 486 Class, we find ourselves at a loss for words—an unusual situation for us at Rathbun Insurance! Working alongside these exceptionally talented students has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. Their ideas, innovation, and execution have left us buzzing with excitement and gratitude.
When we first announced our partnership with this senior capstone course in MSU's Department of Advertising + Public Relations, we knew we were in for a special experience. What we didn’t anticipate was just how much these students would exceed our expectations, growing leaps and bounds from the beginning of the semester to the final presentations. They poured their creativity and hard work into their projects, delivering not one, not two, but five fully baked, research-based presentations packed with actionable recommendations.
Here at Rathbun, we’ve been handed an arsenal of ideas that will shape our marketing and communications strategy for the next 18 months. From standing
up an Instagram, strategies to cohesive branding aimed at inclusivity, new billboards, and so much more, these students have provided us with a roadmap for innovation and growth. Their presentations were professional, polished, and bursting with enthusiasm. We can’t quite put into words how impressed we are by their brilliance—if only we could bottle up their energy and share it with you all!
This partnership was about more than marketing; it was about connection. From our Chief Operating Officer Laura Stoken kicking off the project with an in-depth presentation about our agency’s history, vision, and goals to welcoming the students to our office, this journey has been filled with meaningful interactions. It was especially heartwarming to see connections form between our team, like former MSU gymnast Heather Cooper-Kim, and the student-athletes in the class or Partner David Finkbeiner sharing laughs over bumping into a student at the gym!
We’ve always believed in the power of community, and this collaboration has reinforced that belief tenfold. It’s not just about what the students gave to us—it’s about what we shared together. This was a partnership where creativity met collaboration, and we’re so proud of the results.
