Today, Rathbun Insurance CEO Ben Rathbun and President Laura Stoken had the honor of attending the Legacy of Cesar Chavez Luncheon, held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event was a powerful gathering of community members, business owners, local elected officials, and organizations from across the region, all coming together to celebrate and reflect on the enduring impact of Cesar Chavez.
The atmosphere was filled with a deep sense of unity and purpose, as leaders shared how Chavez’s legacy continues to inspire positive change. From fighting for fair labor practices to advocating for human rights and dignity, Chavez's work transcends generations—and his connection to Lansing is a meaningful chapter of that story.
In the 1970s, Lansing played a pivotal role in the national movement Chavez led. The city became a key site for organizing efforts by the United Farm Workers

(UFW), and local leaders stood alongside Chavez to call for better wages and working conditions for farm workers. His visits to Lansing helped rally support and solidify Michigan’s place in the broader fight for social justice. His spirit of activism continues to influence our community today, reminding us of the power of collective action, perseverance, and compassion.
At Rathbun Insurance, our vision—Being There Matters Most—aligns deeply with the values Cesar Chavez championed. Showing up, lending our voice, and standing in solidarity with our community isn't just something we believe in—it's something we act on. Attending today’s luncheon was not just a way to honor Chavez’s incredible legacy but a reaffirmation of our ongoing commitment to support, uplift, and engage with the communities we serve.
We are grateful to have been part of such an inspiring event and look forward to continuing to honor Chavez’s legacy through our actions, partnerships, and everyday work.
